Pulau Ubin (Thursday, November 27, 2008 / 2:35 AM)
Pulau Ubin
I went to Pulau Ubin last monday with a group of friends. and it was a very interesting experience. I can't believe that it's actually Singapore. It feels more like Malaysia.
Well, to be honest, I haven't been very outdoor-sy or sporty recently. So I was very glad to be out in the clean air and to be amongst trees. But the condition is 远距离欣赏. Not trekking in the "jungle", in such close proximity with the nature. ha. More like a 旁观者.
At the Changi Jetty, where cam whoring starts!!! hahaha...

Don't we look like kids going on excursion?? hahaha..
Group pic....

This is made possible with my new camula~ coz of its wide angle, we could 自拍 even when there are five of us. But the trick is, to squeeze in the middle coz when you are at the side, you'll look fat!!! hahaha... check out diya's arm. It's distorted by the wide angle lens.
Welcome to Pulau Ubin!!!!!

We were all 1st time visitors except for Huimin on the right most. She has been there 4 times! wow.
Typical mode of transport in Ubin...
So of course we have to go get one for ourself. It costs SGD6-8 for a whole-day rental.
And look we chose a "
mamachari" (auntie's bike in Japan)

In Japan it's very uncool for young people to ride this kind of bike. But the pink is tooooo cute.
Then the young ones chose the "cooler bike". Since Huimin has been there so many times, she was the leader of the day. But....

we gave up on maps and just explore!
Quite a pretty sight it is...

I really enjoyed myself taking pictures there.
And then we found this cute place - Cafe why-you-so-like-that. hahahahah!

An old couple lives here. And since this is along the cycling ruote, uncle opened up a "cafe" for cyclists to rest and "jia zui" (drink water in teochew).
Unable to say "no" to this nice uncle, we quickly sat ourselves down.

But of course, it's just an excuse to not be out there exercising! hahaha...
Everything in this house was so kampung-style. It reminded me of my hometown in a small village in Malacca, called Masjid Tanah.

The friendly uncle enthusiastically brought us to see the Kuanyin statue.
So we climbed onto a small slope and found another beautiful sight.

But look at the sky! It was starting to look gloomy.
We took that as a cue for us to head home hahahah...

Well, what can i say... i'm a city girl! But I can appreciate the beauty of nature.... just for a while, before i scurry back to "civilisation".
Looking refreshed?

Although I hated that there were so many mozzie and sandfly and ants and things that come with "nature", I really enjoyed this trip to ubin. The air was great. And it reminded me to look up in the sky and remember how beautiful it is. My eyes felt refreshed, taking in the beauty of ubin.

Byebye.... I think I might go back again....
